T.C. Cumhurbaşkanlığı Köşkü (Pembe Köşk)-Çankaya




Pembe Köşk”, which maintains being one of the most significant architectural values in Ankara of the 20th century, was decided to construct in 1930 since the old “Müze Köşk “was no longer able to meet the needs. The design of the mansion was given to the Austrian architect Clemens Holzmeister (About the architect) who came from his native country to the Turkey to put his projects he designed in his office in Austria into practice after the invasion. The project shaped as its primary version after a short term preliminary work and was finalized with the necessary additions and arrangements by taking the suggestions of Atatürk into consideration in 1930, July 27th with the plans and model. After the decision of the construction terrain in 1930, the construction was completed in June 1932 after 18 months working period starting from the beginning of 1931. This near square shaped building was constructed on a rustic stone base. There exists a large open courtyard with a swimming pool behind the building. It was designed as a two floor building above the basement. The main spaces were placed according to the entrance axis. Equal size windows, circular windows and flat roof could be listed as other significant features of the building. All building materials and supplies were brought from Austria. The integration of traditional Turkish dwelling style and the comfort of western style could be seen in this building. The mansion is also a very important value for representing the Atatürk’s life style. In many years the mansion had undergone some modifications but in 2000-2001, however, it was restored in accordance to its original version.
